One of the major advancement in the field of medicine is the process of donating the blood of the baby after its birth. The blood is being collected from the placentas and on the umbilical cord as well. This is done after a woman gives birth the bloods that are being collected from this kind of procedure are filled with stem cells. The stem cells that the Cord Blood have are now being used for treatment of different kind of genetic disorders. Aside from that these can also be used as cure for hematopoietic disorders.

There are also other sources where people can get stem cells. One of these is the bone marrow. But then there are many doctors that are considering the cord blood to be more important. There are many studies these days that shows that there are many advantages that people can get from the cord blood than other sources where stem cells are able to found. Some of the advantages that people can get from cord blood are; high rate or engraftment, low rate is severe diseases that are able to be transferred from the graft to the host, low rate of contamination because of latent viruses, and these also gives, pre tolerance from having a tissue mismatch.

These cord bloods are being preserved in special facilities. It will be a sure match if the person who will use it is the child itself where the blood cord has been collected.  But then these are also able to be used on some other members of the family who needs some medical procedures like those undergoing leukemia disease and other transplant diseases.

When more and more parents will decide to donate or store the cord blood that from their newborns, there will surely be more and more lives are going to be saved.
